STORY OF GANESH CHATURTHI

One day Goddess Parwati is very impressed with the NANDI, the bull devotee of Lord Shiva. She also wanted a devotee for her all the services, a personal devotee for her. So, she made an idol of a boy from her skin, By her great spiritual powers, she made the idol of a boy in a living being, She gave life to him. Now she had a devotee and a son to follow her. She was very delighted to have a son who will serve her.

Then she decided to take bath and told her son to stand out of the room to guard and will not allow anyone to enter inside. After some time Lord Shiva came to meet Goddess Parwati in hurry. When he was entering the room of his wife. The boy stopped him to enter, Lord Shiva doesn't know that the boy is his son. He told the boy that he is the husband of Goddess Parwati. But still, he refused to enter and informed him that his mother told him to guard. Both came in an argument, Lord Shiva got angry and beheaded the boy.

Goddess Parwati got very angry with Lord Shiva. All the gods came and requested Lord Shiva to calm down Goddess Parwati. Then Lord Shiva commanded his devotees to go and get one head of the first living being they will get. But of the child whose head is in the north direction and the mother is laying in the opposite direction of the child and the first living being they will get. The devotees followed the instructions and discovered an elephant child that suited the description of Lord Shiva. They brought the head of that baby elephant and handed it over to Lord Shiva.

Lord Shiva by his spiritual powers attached the elephant head on the boy's body and brought him back to life. Hence he was named  GAJANAN (Elephant Headed). And to please Goddess Parvati he gave a boon to the boy to be worshiped first on every occasion.

May Lord Ganesha keeps you healthy and happy.
